Eclipse Partners celebrates Mongolian artists and the shared work of sustaining democracy
On October 5, 2026, Eclipse Partners had the privilege of hosting a dinner honoring noted Mongolian photojournalist Tsatsralt Sereeter and political cartoonist Tsogtbayar Samandar—two artists whose work bears witness to Mongolia’s transition from communism to democracy and the courage required to speak freely in the face of state repression.
The dinner served as the capstone to Day 1 of New Neighbor Initiative’s (NNI’s) “Mongolia: The Story of a Democratic Oasis: An Exhibition.” Held at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C., the exhibition showcased both men’s work, bringing Mongolia’s democratic journey to an American audience through documentary photography and political satire.
Through his photography, Tsatsralt preserved the human experience of democratic change: citizens gathering, demanding a voice, and helping shape their country’s future. Through his political cartoons, Tsogtbayar has used humor and incisive observation to examine power, civic responsibility, and the challenges facing democracy. Their different forms of expression share an essential purpose: encouraging people to see clearly, question openly, and remember how freedom is won.
For our firm, hosting this dinner was an opportunity to honor their dedication to fearlessly capturing history and exercising freedom of speech when doing so demanded resolve. Their example reminds us that democratic freedoms depend on people willing to exercise them—and on communities willing to support those voices.
That shared responsibility connects the work of the artists, NNI, and Eclipse Partners. Photojournalists preserve evidence and public memory. Political cartoonists challenge authority and invite scrutiny. Organizations such as NNI bring these perspectives across borders, creating opportunities for education, dialogue, and solidarity. As immigration attorneys, we contribute through advocacy for individual rights, access to justice, and fair treatment under the law.
Each has an integral role in supporting the conditions that allow freedom and liberty to endure in democratic states around the world. The right to speak, the ability to hold power accountable, and the protection of individual dignity all require continued care.
We are deeply grateful to Tsatsralt Sereeter and Tsogtbayar Samandar for sharing their work and joining us for this occasion. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Urga Azat, founder and president of NNI, and Sainkuu Enkh-Otgon, a key NNI contributor. Their welcome made it possible for us to participate in the exhibition as volunteers, and their generous assistance was invaluable in organizing the dinner.
It was an honor to contribute to a day devoted to Mongolia’s democratic story and to recognize the people who have helped preserve it. We look forward to continuing to support the voices, relationships, and institutions that keep freedom alive.
